FASHION WEEK DESIGN COMPETITION

"Nominated for the Fashion Week Design Award."

In the autumn of 1999 Fashion Week announced its traditional design competition. Together with 35 students from ESMOD and The Oslo National Academy of the Arts I attended the competition. I was picked out as one of five nominees for the prestigious price.

The Competition task was to be playful. My contribution was a dress, cap and leggings made of teddy fabric. I chose the title " Dog Suey " for my dress. It is inspired from the playful dog animal, with a happy personality. The picture of the newspaper article shows my illustration and work sketch for the competition. Under is a picture taken with the manufactured dress on a model.

[Mag] magazine and Sone 2, a youth television program from TV2 invited Norwegian designers to show What is trendy Tomorrow ? for a target group of girls between 15 and 25 year. The magazine wrote afterwords, quote " Norwegian design is more than shapeless knitwear and weird avant-garde creations. Finalists in [mag] and Sone 2's design contest What's trendy tomorrow? proved that Norwegian design can be both trendy and consumer friendly. "

Many hundred sketches was sent in for the competition. From the amount of participates ten designers attended a " material grant " to manufacture their designs. The Jury picket out fore finalist of the ten. I was one of them.

I designed and made my own wadded fabric. It is made of Grey polyester, and the wadded pattern is made of pink thick silk tread to be more visible and exclusive than normal wadded fabrics. The design expresses traffic in a big city and I have therefore called my design Traffic . It is a continuation of the design I made for my candidate exam in 1999.
